History:
The M36 90 mm Gun Motor Carriage was a U.S. tank destroyer designed between 1942 and 1944 that saw action on the Western Front with the Allied forces during WWII. Though only around 1300 were manufactured between 1944 and 1945, the M36 was a formidable opponent the Germans learned to fear up until the end of the war.
The first M36 Tank Destroyers entered combat in October 1944 used by the 776th Tank Destroyer Batallion. The M36 was very well received by its crew, mainly for its ability to destroy almost any German armor encountered at the time thanks to its powerful main armament while offering excellent mobility and visibility. However, the open-top turret made the crew vulnerable to artillery and sniper fire, while the chassis being based on the Sherman gave the M36 a high profile. Despite its drawbacks, it was a vehicle constantly in high demand throughout WWII.
