History:
The M3A1 Scout Car was an armored 4-wheel drive vehicle designed and developed by the U.S. White Motor Company in 1939. It was intended to serve in reconnaissance, screening, and command roles. Approximately almost 21,000 M3A1 Scout Cars were produced between 1939 and 1945.
The M3A1 Scout Car initially saw action with U.S. cavalry forces during the North Africa Campaign and the Invasion of Sicily, where it served its intended purpose. It was a fast and reliable vehicle on roads and flat terrain, making it highly popular with its crews.
The M3A1 Scout Car also saw service within other nations during WWII, most notably with the British Commonwealth Forces and the Soviet Union. The British found the vehicle to fit the role of an armored truck and was used more often in secondary roles as opposed to frontline combat. These roles included engineering, medical transport, observation, and signals. The Soviets used the M3A1 in a more combat-oriented role, being used as armored personnel carriers and light field gun prime movers.
