History:
The Panzer III was a medium tank developed in 1934 by the Army Weapons Department. General Heinz Guderian, often considered responsible for creating the Panzer Division and its “Blitzkrieg” tactics, intended the Panzer III to fight other tanks and armored vehicles while the Panzer IV would offer infantry support.
By 1941, the Panzer III was upgraded and fitted with 5 cm Kw.K 39 L/60 gun, being initially designated as the Panzer III Ausf. J1. The Panzer III Ausf. J and L made up the majority of all Panzer III production during the war. By the end of 1943, the Panzer III was effectively replaced as a frontline medium tank by the up-gunned Panzer IV and Panther.
Despite its limited potential and service life, the Panzer III served as the groundwork for all future military development projects Germany participated in during the war
