History:

The A27M Cruiser Mk. VII, better known as the ‘Cromwell’, was the primary cruiser tank used by the United Kingdom from 1944 to war's end, and would continue to see service until 1955. The Cromwell is notable as it was the first British cruiser tank that successfully combined the high speed of the cruiser tanks with protection comparable to the Sherman. The Cromwell also represents a shift in British Tank doctrine towards creating a universal tank, which would eventually evolve into the concept of the Main Battle Tank with the A34 Comet and A41 Centurion.
