History:
The PaK 43 (Panzerabwehrkanone 43) was an 8.8 cm heavy anti-tank gun produced between 1943 and 1945. It was the heaviest anti-tank gun to be fielded in significant numbers during WWII with over 2,000 units produced between all variants by war's end.
As the war progressed, Germany found itself needing to field heavier weaponry to combat the growing armored threat posed by the Allied armies, particularly on the Eastern Front. The PaK 43 high velocity 8.8 cm anti-tank gun entered service in 1943, a resulting development of Germany's efforts to combat the new Russian tanks encountered during the opening stages of Operation Barbarossa. It was by far one of the most powerful guns fielded in the German Army, able to defeat even the latest IS-2 models employed by the Soviets.
However, the PaK 43 was heavy, weighing 3,650 kg. This prompted a need to mobilize the PaK 43, and thus the weapon was adapted and used in vehicles such as the Tiger II, Jagdpanther, and Nashorn.
