History:
The Panzer II Luchs was equipped with a 2cm KwK 38/L65 autocannon and a coaxial 7.92 MG 34, similar to the earlier Panzer II variants. It was protected by 30mm of frontal armor and 20mm of side armor, able to defeat projectiles of similar caliber as the autocannon. The Maybach HL 66P 6-cylinder was able to provide the Luchs with about 15 horsepower per ton, nearly double compared to the heavy Panzers fielded by Germany.
By mid 1942 just as the first production vehicles were completed, increasing manufacturing priority was placed on the Panther tank. This led to only 100 vehicles being produced, with the last models completed in early 1944.
Overall, the Luchs was a very successful vehicle in its role. Though there were many more plans to improve the vehicle, its low production numbers were due to desperate circumstances faced by the Germans and the shift in priority as the Germans began to fight a defensive war.
