History:
The Renault FT-17 was a French light tank that revolutionized armoured vehicle design during the First World War.
The FT entered service on the Western Front in May 1918, where it quickly demonstrated its effectiveness. It was deployed in large numbers and used in swarming tactics, where the smaller Renault tanks could overwhelm German positions with speed and numerical superiority, working alongside infantry support as well as the older landship designs.
The Renault FT’s influence on tank development was profound. Its combination of mobility, turreted armament, and practical layout marked it as the first truly modern tank, establishing a design that would be followed for decades.
