History:

One of the only tanks the Germans truly feared during the Second World War, the Sherman Firefly was a British tank designed in 1943 that saw service on the Western Front during Operation Overlord. Though only approximately 2,000 were made, it played a significant role during the Normandy landings and subsequent combat in Western Europe as an effective counter to the latest heavy German Panzers.

It was the tank that the Allied forces needed in preparation for the Normandy landings that gave them a fighting chance against the feared German heavy tanks. The firefly would retire from British service with the introduction of the Comet and Centurion in 1945.
