History:
The Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III) was one of the most produced armored vehicles of the German Army during the Second World War. It had its humble beginnings during the 1940 German invasion of France, where its utility as an infantry support vehicle and its reliability contributed significantly to its early success.
The StuG III Ausf. F introduced the long-barreled 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/43, dramatically improving its armor-piercing performance. Later production vehicles received the even longer L/48 gun, while additional frontal armor increased protection to 80 mm on reinforced vehicles. These improvements transformed the StuG III from an infantry-support weapon into an effective tank destroyer.
